Actors Reporter is in the middle of all exciting things AFM this year and that also includes the coverage of Russian Film Week!

Russian Film Week was held this year from November 1st-5th and was presented by ROSKINO at the famed Aero Theatre. Shortly after American Film Market (AFM), will be taking place in Santa Monica, CA from November 6th-13th. This is the third year that ROSKINO, with the support of the Russian Culture Ministry and the Foreign Ministry and with the participation of Aeroflot Russian Airlines, has been an official partner of the market holding a series of conferences with the participation of film industry professionals. During this exciting week ROSKINO announced the 2013 results of 2ndInternational Traveling Film Market DOORS, held in St. Petersburg this past September. Many industry professionals from Brazil, Russia, India, China, USA, the UK, France and Eastern Europe gathered to view 16 new Russian films scheduled for release in 2014. ROSKINO will announce prospects for distribution of these films during AFM.  Also in attendance were 27 companies – including Star Entertainment (India), Stealth Media Group (UK), PVR Pictures (India), Media Asia (China), Verizon FiOS (USA), RLJ Entertainment (USA), Habanero Film Sales (Brazil) and Digital Media Rights (Hong Kong).  ROSKINO is set to show a total of 32 Russian films from the DOORS catalogue at AFM.

During the Russian Film Week, supervised by Catherine Mtsitouridze, head of ROSKINO, and Gwen Deglise, program director of the American Cinematheque, seven films were featured: ‘Legend No. 17’ (Legenda №17) by Nikolai Lebedev; another Russian success ‘Soulless’ (Dukhless) by Roman Prygunov; a graceful comedy by Viktor Shamirov, ‘The game of Truth’ (Igra V Pravdu); ‘Kicking Off’ (Okolofutbola), a harsh social drama by Anton Bormatov, ‘Role’ (Rol), a sophisticated film by Konstantin Lopushansky; the psychological drama ‘Thirst’ (Zhazhda) by Dmitry Tyurin; and the social drama ‘A Long and Happy Life’ (Dolgaya Schastlivaya Zhizn) by Boris Khlebnikov which took part in Berlinale-2013 competition.  After which, attendees had a chance to meet and greet filmmakers at the Q&A sessions hosted by F. X. Feeney, a renowned journalist, and Alex Ago, head of special projects at the University of California.

ROSKINO is also set to take part in the Location Show and the pitching conference on November 9th in conjunction with AFM. The objective of the Location show is to present a variety of geographical locations from all over the world as possible film locations and demonstrate methods of boosting film production in those areas. Glavkino, one of the largest production complexes in Eastern Europe, and Mosfilm, Russia’s oldest film company will be highlighted. During the pitch conference attendees will first learn the essential rules and tools of pitching from the experts. Then a few volunteers selected in advance will pitch to a panel of Hollywood decision makers.
