Directed by Cynthia Levin
About the Director/Comedian/Teacher: Cynthia Levin is a professional stand-up comic seen on
ABC's Comic's Unleashed, Comedy Central's Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn,
BET's Comic View, to name a few. She has performed at many of the major clubs
throughout the United States, such as The Comedy Store, The Improvisation and
Caroline's Comedy Club in NYC. Most recently, she performed at The Bentzen
Ball Comedy Festival in D.C., SF Sketchfest, San Francisco's Comedy Festival and
The Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. She has also had the opportunity to
do several Armed Forces Tours, performing for our troupes in Japan, Korea,
Kosovo, Bosnia and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
As a stand-up comedy instructor, she has taught people of all ages and levels for
the last several years and has also taught along side Adam Barnhardt at LA City
College (LACC), The Gay and Lesbian Center as well as his privately taught
classes. In addition, she has also been teaching stand-up comedy to teens along
side Susanna Spies for her Laughlinks Organization at The Hollywood Improv and
for Susanna's other great non-profit, The Eamon Cannon Comedy Class.
Writing and performance exercises are the main focus of Cynthia's classes.
These exercises culminate into a minimum of 8 minutes of new material as well as
exercises to sharpen and revive any of their already existing material.
In addition to these exercises, Cynthia infuses the Meisner technique (which she
taught for 5 years prior, predominantly to comedians) into her stand-up comedy
program. This technique teaches the performer to be more in the moment, more
truthful and more aware of their surroundings. The result of this process is a
more honest and well-rounded comedian, which in turn builds audience trust.
Lastly, Cynthia uses meditation exercises to help comics build confidence, realize
their short and long term goals as well as prepare for their performances.
Below are some testimonials from current and previous students:

"I never went to a stand up class. I didn't know why anyone would but I went to Cynthia's class
because...well, it was Cynthia. I had stopped standup for ten years to raise my daughters full time and
when I came back to comedy, (after having done the Tonite Show with Johnny Carson and other TV
shows), I was lost and I found myself again in Cynthia's class. Yeah, baby. Thank you!"
-Karen Haber, Los Angeles

"Cynthia Levin is, bar none, the absolute best comedy coach in Los Angeles. I would recommend
her to anybody at any level. And on top of all that, her class is a hoot!"
Karen Knotts

"I have been a professional comedian for twelve years and have never taken a stand-up class. I was
absolutely thrilled and surprised to come up with brand new material so quickly in Cynthia's class- that I
have already used on stage! I highly recommend this class!"

 -Katie Love, Los Angeles

"Cynthia is great! She's knows how to breakdown your ideas and pinpoint exactly what is funny in each bit
and helps you to develop a method of elaboration. Every class, we get a take home assignment that helps
develop different aspects of our own individual comedic abilities. I highly recommend this class to any
aspiring or professional comedian."
-Marcus Cohlan, Los Angeles

"Cynthia Levin never teaches what she finds funny but instead teaches her students to find their own unique
voice. I repeatedly take her classes because I am always guaranteed at least 2 full sets of great material."
-Philip Boyle, Los Angeles

"Just when I had hit a creative wall and couldn't write a thing along came Cynthia and in just a few
hours I not only had new material but a new sense of who I was as a performer. Cynthia naturally
provides a safe and constructive environment to explore all the nuances of life and different
aspects of performing to bring to life your personal story. I love working with Cynthia! No matter
how successful ( I hope to) become I will always rely on Cynthia to guide me along in my material
and to bring me back to reality. Cynthia makes the creative process a joy and after working with
her I always feel a new energy to keep on performing."
Lauren Rochelle

"Cynthia's approach comes from a place of truth, she has a way of probing material out of you in a
genuine way that you never would have thought was there...And she's funny too!"
- Anne Winkles "Dead Beat Prom Queen"

"I took Cynthia's stand up class and had the best time. She is a great teacher - positive, funny,
insightful and challenging. I would highly recommend taking this class if you are a beginner or
have been doing comedy a long time. Either way, she will help guide and inspire you to your own
next level."
-Kate Roxburgh

Cynthia Levin is a talented, extraordinary teacher who can coach you and awaken the raw
materials of comedy and truth within the soul and verbally express it. I've been a writer for 20
years, and learning key techniques of comedy performance has made me a better communicator
and leader in my community. I've been performing comedy for 5 years and I've taken every
comedy workshop in town, Cynthia's class is by far the most well rounded in terms of helping
students create an authentic version of their own unique viewpoint and form of comedic
expression. Thanks to Cynthia, I feel more comfortable on stage and can take more creative risks.
